NOTICE TO EXPERIMENTERS.
For the purpose of patent litigation, it is important that the facts and dates in connection with all experiments should be carefully preserved, as well as models and experimental apparatus. The following suggestions are made:
(1) In all experiments which are likely to result in patents, full notes of the work should be kept, with all dates. Notes should if possible, disclose the complete development of the experimental work, up to its completion. Any observation of importance should be signed, dated and witnessed.
(2) When the experiments involve new mechanical structures, sketches should be made, signed, witnessed and dated.
(3) All models and experimental apparatus must be preserved, and should be marked with a tag giving the names of the experimenter and of the model marker, date of completion, and of tests, and should be signed by experimenter model marker, dated and witnessed.
(4) Note books, sketches and models, etc., should turned over to Mr. Dryer, who will preserve the same.
(Signed)
T. A. Edison
