32 Fawcett St Sunderland, England. Requesting rebate on purchase price of a of Electric Pen patent. Mentions [1876] "visit of Mr. [Frederic] Ireland to New York and the whole circumstances of the Sale and purchase." Original purchase of patent 4000 pounds ("a portion of that sum went into other hands I believe. #I have been a very heavy loser . . . At this moment the loss is about $7000 and that has caused me great trouble and anxiety.# I write to you now with the hope that you may inclie to look at the transactions as one of misfortune to me -- : if you can do so and make some rebate from the original purchase it would be of great service to me I can assure you. …" Addressed to Menlo Park
