Title
[D8724AAB], Letter from George Crosby to Thomas Alva Edison, June 11th, 1887
Editor's Notes
"Will you please excuse me for making a suggestion. There comes to this market yearly millions of "cony" (Rabbit) skins. This fur from [-----] which is used in the the manufacutre of hats. The fur is now separated from the pelt by a machine which cuts the pelt into very small strips, and of course destroys it. What we need is a machine which will by some process separate the fur from the pelts and save the latter that it may be tanned & used in various wayt for which leather is adapted. There is no doubt a large fortune in any machine that will accomplish this object. ## The question is can it be done? Perhaps you can answer it. I should be glad to have you give the matter a little consideration." Marginalia in TAE's hand: "I have an idea I can do this shall have my new Laboratory finished by Sept 15 & can easily put Couple Experimenters on the problem -- please notify me again about that time & I will go into it --"
