Title
[D8807ABM], Letter from New York Post, John Ranken Towse to Thomas Alva Edison, July 16th, 1888
Editor's Notes
Hearing that you had received some interesting phonograms from London I telephoned your laboratory this morning to ask for information and was told to send out a reporter. This I at once did. Ten minutes after he had started I am told by telephone that no phonograms of importance had arrived and that the visit of the reporter was unnecessary. When my reporter reached your laboratory was to his astonishment treated with marked discourtesy and I write this note to discover if you approve of such conduct on the part of yoursubordinates. Certainly the Evening Post has deserved all kindness at your hands, and I cannot believe that you would permit one of its staff to be insulted. The reporter sent today was a gentleman, a graduate of Columbia College, and a man of scientific attainment and I cannot imagine why he should have been treated as an impertinent interlocutor.
