Title
[D8818AMC], Letter from Thomas Alva Edison to Ezra Torrance Gilliland, June 6th, 1888
Editor's Notes
have your letter 1st re Phonograph in Canada. Canadian patent business is a perfect farce. The Edison Electric Light Co lost forty thousand dollars trying to manufacture in Canada for the Canadian trade. The cost of manufacturing in that country is greater than the cost of machines here with the duty added. The best thing we can do is sell American made instruments in that country and pay necessary duties on entry.
