Title

[D8905AJC], Letter from Field Engineering Co, Cornelius J Field to Thomas Alva Edison, December 5th, 1889

Editor's Notes

Field Engineering Company My dear Mr Edison-- You will see by the above heading that I hae concluded to start out myself instead of taking the position with you.I tried to see you before you started up the mines, but just missed you. I have gone over the matter carefully the last month. I would like to ty for a while on my own hook. I believe that with good hard work and the good will of yourself and the rest of the ompany, there is a good opportunity for a first class Consulting and Construction Company. .I feel that there is much of your work, as similar to what I have been doing for you for the last several montsh, which is just in our line and which I could give the best attention. It is not only the work I wish from you, but your good will and the use of your name as doing work for you. Can I not therefore hold the position of Engineer for you on special work of the class that I have been doing, and continue on with the Silver Lake and Niagra sheme and other work in this line?... Mr. MacQuestion who is interested with me in this work, you are acquainted with in years past. Mr. White is a personal friend opf mine and a first class engineer.##We are looking after the power plant for the ore mill for Mr. Livor and yourself.##I will go out and see you just as soon as you return and trust you will think over the matter favorably and give us the opportunity of doing whatever business we can with you and having the great advantage which it will give us. Trusting to see you soon or hear from you, we remain,Yours respectfully, C.J Field President
