Title

[D8905AKC], Letter from George Frederick Barker to Thomas Alva Edison, December 21st, 1889

Editor's Notes

Philadelphia Dec. 21 1889 My dear Edison:-- I was sorry you could not meet Mr. Dixon last week. He spent Thursday morning with me and returned to Chicago Friday. He and his partner Mr. Hill, had been on to Washington to argue the appeal before the Commissioner. And I have just received a telegram from him saying that Commissioner Mitchell has decided the interference in Dixon's favor. This of course is final and throws Westinghouse out of court entirely. From the account which he gave me when here I could see that he had a marvellously perfect system in which the many defects incident to the Westinghouse system have been remedied. Moreover he was covered the ground all about this outline so as to keep foragers off. On the patents already issued to him there are 216 claims; and the whole system is most ingenious. Of course Westinghouse is already pressing him to consolidate. And now that the interference is finally settled, he is open to a proposition from Westinghouse. If you do not care to take up the matter seriously, will you be good enough to let me know at once so that I can write to him? Yours very truly George F. Barker]
