Mr. A.O. Tate
Orange, N.J.
Dear Sir:
I enclose copies of testimonials which have been written at various times, and for various purposes.
For many reasons I would like to obtain the position with Mr. Edison, and before giving me a definite answer one way or the other I would thank you very much if you would arrange for me to have an audience either with yourself or with Mr. Edison.
Very respectfully yours
Courtenay De Kalb New York, Jan. 8, 1892.
Mr. Courtenay De Kalb was employed by us at the direction of some of our Lima friends to investigate certain mining property in Brazil and Peru, and was in our employ in such capacity for about 6 months. He has given us entire satisfaction in all his business in connection with his investigation and we feel gratified now in commending him as an Engineer to our friends.
Very respectfully

New York, May 23, 1892.
I take pleasure in testifying to the abilities of Mr. Courtenay De Kalb as mining and metallurgical engineer.
I have know Mr. De Kalb for some five years and have been cognizant of much of the work done by him previous to and that time and his acquaintance with the subjects pertaining to those branches.
I have confidently recommend him to any company desiring the services of a competent metallurgist and engineer of mines.

Gentlemen
I am informed that Mr. Courtenay De Kalb is an applicant for a position with your company. I take pleasure in testifying to the fitness of Mr. De Kalb for work connected with the mining and milling of gold and silver ores. He has bad experience in this country and in South America, and I believe him to be an earnest and conscientious engineer. I have known him for some years and have always found him courteous and well informed, and I think as a manager of a milling plant he would prove a very desirable man.
Trusting that you may see your way to appointing Mr. De Kalb to the position with your company,
I am
Yours respectfully

Mr. F.S. Barnes

Dear Sir:
I take pleasure in introducing to your favorable attention my friend of long standing, Mr. Courtenay De Kalb.
He has been associated with me in laboratory work in chemical analysis and assaying, and has done good service for our firm of [illegible] + Eaton in examining mining properties in Dakota. He has had more or less experience in running and metallurgical work.
I think he would be competent to take charge of your mining + milling property in Mexico, and would be faithful in working out any metallurgical problems which might arise in bringing your plant into good condition. If by consulting with our firm he can desire any benefit for the advantage of your people. I should be happy to be consulted at any time.
Yours respectfully
H.G. Torsey
U.S. Assayer.
