Title
[LB016315], Letter from Thomas Alva Edison to F R Wells, May 13th, 1883
Editor's Notes
I have received through the Wester Electric Co. your favor of the 25th. ult. with relation to the Australian telephone royalties for 1882. I hardly know what to advise you in relation to this matter as I have sold and assigned all my interest in said royalties to the Oriental Telephone Co. I would suggest that you either try to force them to accept the royalties and hold the contract good or else get them to intimate that they consider the contract void. I could not possibly accept the royalties myself as they would be a breach of my contract with the Oriental Telephone Co. I very much regret that you should have any trouble with them and that they should pursue the policy of trying to force you into a sale of your telephone interests at a figure under its real value. I will write to the Chairman of the Oriental Telephone Company urging him to take such decided action in the matter and trust that it will have the effect of assisting you to a speedy conclusion of the controversy.
