Title
[LB017041], Letter from Thomas Alva Edison to W J Menzies, May 28th, 1883
Editor's Notes
Referring to our recent conversations, I beg to say it is probable that I could get the Edison Ore Milling Company, Limited to contract to separate at Moisie, Canada, within three months after operations can be commenced, not less than ten thousand (10,000) tons of magnetic iron ore from the Noisle deposit belonging to you; the ore is to be cleaned within one per cent of impurity. I think such a contract could be obtained from the Ore Milling Company at the following prices, namely; ##If the sand bears 25% of magnetic iron, $2,75 per ton##If the sand bears 30% of magnetic iron, 2,35 per ton##If the sand bears 35% of magnetic iron, 2,00 per ton##If the sand bears 40% of magnetic iron, 1,88 per ton##If the sand bears 50% of magnetic iron, 1,75 per ton##You would be required to deliver, in case such a contract was made, the sand at the separating shed, and the cleaned ore would be delivered to you from the same place. Another condition would be that you should furnish the ground and buildings, the whole of separating plant being furnished by us.##It is also probable that I could get the Ore Milling Company to agree to put up the plant and produce with twenty five per cent sand thirty thousand (30,000) tons of magnetic ore, cleaned within one per cent of impurity, in three months in each year for three consecutive years.##If you desire to avail yourself of the above offer of my services in obtaining either of such contracts for you, please notify me within thirty days after the receipt by you of this letter.
