Title

[LB019357], Letter from Samuel Insull to Ezra Torrance Gilliland, November 6th, 1884

Editor's Notes

There will probably be a fight between the Oriental Telephone Co (London) shareholders at their next meeting and it is important that we should be posted as to the merits of the issues which will be raised. The fight will be in all probability between Colonial Geo. E. Gouraud (who I think controls the present management & who was with Edison one of the Vendors) on the one side the "Cash" stockholders on the other. I told Edison that I thought Kingsbury of the Western Electric Cos London Agency could probably get at the merits of the thing. What we want to know is what the fight is about; whom Gouraud has associated with him & if amongst others Sir Julius Vogel; who compose Gourauds opponents; & in fact all information which Kingsbury can get such as when the meeting will take place. Can you get the Western Electric to cable Kingsbury for a short cable explanation & for full details by letter. If so get them to do it as if they needed the information themselves & do not have our names mentioned in the matter. Any expenses in cabling from either side we will send you check for on notification of the amount.##It is very important that we should know something about the matter from independent sources as Edison has about L15000 ($75000) of Stock in the concern which today is not worth a d--m & Kingsbury is the only man I can think of whose information we can rely on
