[LB021332], Letter from Samuel Insull to Thomas Alva Edison, March 3rd, 1886

Editor's Notes

I enclose newspaper cuttings which please return after perusal (in another package). ##I also enclose {for} you an agreement in triplicate. Please sign each copy {and} return them to me and then I will be able to get your Electric Railway Stock released. Be sure to have your signature witnessed. (in another package). ##I send you herewith some stamped envelopes so that you can return things sent you. ##Dr. Crowell is dickering with me for 200 shares of Railway Telegraph. The old gentleman I think had an enquiry for some and wants to make a turn on it. I offered it to him at 25 (you told me to sell at 24) and he would not take it. I think tomorrow he will offer me 22 1/2 and I shall of course refuse it as I have no alternative after your instructions to me. Please wire {underlined in original} me immediately on receipt of this what I am to do in case I get an offer of 22 1/2, as if I get that price bid me and cannot raise it, I shall try to keep the bid open till I can hear from you. Remember we need funds badly here. ##I have not been able to get the insurance{?} yet. I expect to in about two weeks, but that will only clear off Florida bills and will leave me nothing here. ##Crowell heard from McGregor today and {-------} that by today or tomorrow, the apparatus will be working on the St. Paul road. I will advise you as soon as something definite is heard from McGregor. ##Crowell is going to put Bevis in Poppan{?}'s place, which under the circumstances is a good arrangement, as next to Poppan, I would rather see Bevis in the position than anyone else, as Bevis is friendly, as he feels himself under obligations to us. Reimer will take Bevis's place in Light Co., which is equally agreeable. ##Please answer this at once {underlined in original}.
