Title
[LB022027], Letter from Alfred Ord Tate to Thomas Pike, April 19th, 1886
Editor's Notes
Enclosed I beg to hand you check for Eighty Three +83/100 Dollars ($83 83/100) the same being amount of your salary in full to 16th inst. I am in receipt of a letter from Mr. Edison in which he instructs me to reduce immediately our expenses in Canada, inasmuch as our own work in that country has been very expensive and greatly exceeded the original estimates of costs. Although our business over here is progressing rapidly it is not yet in such condition as to warrant the employment of assistance beyond our present capacity, and I must therefore inform you that after the first of next month (May) we will be obliged to dispense with the efficient service you have been performing for us during the past few months. We will send you check for salary in accordance herewith.## I am today writing Mr Dwight on this subject and pointing out to him the fact that you are now qualified for a new field of usefulness in the event of additions being made to the [phone?] system in Canada and [??] will doubtless take cognizance of the assistance you can render in this connection.## Thanking you on behalf of Mr. Edison and myself for the care and attention you have given to our business I beg to remain Yours faithfully
