"I was very much pleased to learn that the Trustees of Columbia College had, at last, decided to establish a Department of Electrical Engineering, and I would like to show my appreciation of this movement in some practical manner. It has occurred to me that perhaps the best way in which I could do this, would be to establish a Scholarship, to be awarded to the student attaining the highest record in some branch of electrical engineering as designated by myself. I am entirely unfamiliar with the manner in which those Scholarships are established, and am, therefore, unable to give the subject intelligent consideration. If you will be good enough to explain it fully to me, I will consider it further, and communicate with you again." Yours very truly, [signed] TAE
