KATH FIELD’S WASHINGTON,
Washington, D.C.
Dear Miss Field,-
Reply to your letter of 24th ultimo, in which you ask Mr. Edison to send you a sentiment for your Thanksgiving number, has been delayed owing to the necessity of my having to forward it to Mr. Edison, who is present absent from home.
He has now returned your communication with the following reply written thereon:
“I know not what others are thankful for, but as for myself I am thankful that Christopher Columbus discovered America, otherwise I might be having turnips in Brittany. EDISON.”
Yours very truly,
A. O. Tate
Private Secretary.
