Title
[LM112124], Letter from Arthur Edwin Kennelly to U.S. Naval Torpedo Station (Newport), Charles Edward Munroe, October 15th, 1889
Editor's Notes
Dear Sir Mr Edison is desirous of trying the effects of guncotton in quarrying operations with a view of superseding if possible the slow existing process of drilling by hand or steam. He has asked me to enquire whether you do not think that flat disks of this mterial pressed against the breast of the rock and fired in groups electrically would blast away as economically, thoroughly, and quickly as though dynamite cartridge had been exploded in the ordinary drill holes. He would be glad to try an experiment if you could furnish him with a sample or say where such disks are procurable togethe with their commercial value. Yours faithfully A. E. Kennelly
