Title

[X154A7AM], Letter from Edward Hibberd Johnson to Uriah Hunt Painter, January 17th, 1888

Editor's Notes

"Had a long talk with Cheever. He is very good n atured & says he is only after what you are & would be perfectly willing to join you in putting enough stock in trust say 13,000 shares to guarantee against Edison's attempt to wrest the property from us. Says he controls all that you don't & is willing to assent to your having 4 directors if you will give him 3; thinks this is only fair & will prove to you fully that all he wants is to compel TAE to disgorge. Has taken legal advice & is assured that TAE is in the wrong & can be made to hand over everything to the old Co. ## Now this is your opportunity to show that you are not governed by any personal prejudice and to avoid all internal discussions & unite all the stockholders in a common cause against Edisons assumption of absolute ownership. ## Will you do it, If so when?"
