Title

[X154A8CF], Letter from Sigmund Bergmann to Uriah Hunt Painter, May 20th, 1889

Editor's Notes

My dear Painter: Yours of 19th came duly to hand and enclosure of check as stated, for which please accept my thanks.##As to how much more you will likely be called on for, I think it may be $29,000 more but perhaps only $10,000, and in this connection simply call your attention to the fact that we are going in on a somewhat better scale than was at first anticipated, as we now have in hand the finest business of its kind in the country and the outlay for Show Rooms samples etc. will be necessarily quite heavy. I am carrying Johnson's share myself until such a time as he will be able to let me have the money which will be as soon as he can geit it out of the Villard deal.##In regard to making sales we have, of course, made some, but they do not amount to much and cannot be relied on to help us in any way for some time to come. The fact of the matter is that many orders just now would interfere with the work of getting our samples ready for our Show Rooms, on which after all we must depend for trade of any magniftude, and which consequently constitutes the most important work that we could possibly do. Very truly yours, S. Bergmann
