[LETTERHEAD: The Phonoplex]Rec'd yours of 26th inst. [LM012208] yesterday afternoon, after had mailed a long one to you enclosing telegram from Stewart [Not in database] of C.B&Q saying he'll be in Chicago and see me re: phonoplex; will urge him to go to N.Y. to see phone in working order; have taken not of TAE's opinion re: an office, but must stick to my view on office, expressed in my letter of yesterday; advantage of exhibition in working order is only way telegraph supts will get correct understanding of system; none will recommend system trial without it; will leave Northern Pacific & Chicago, Milwaukee & St. Paul alone as you request; same with all Gould lines as per TAE###Re: Southern Kansas Railway, chief dispatcher in Hill's absence cut circuit due to faulty condensers; recommend sending two of our own condensers to Hill at Lawrence KS as he's anxious to report favorably on circuit so he can equip others.###Diagram of circuit on page 3; There are 10 intermediate condensers, all Bunnell, trouble was in condensers at Ottawa and Chaute [?]; when Hill returns will write him for update; C.S. Jones [not in database], supt of Illinois Central says he got unfavorable report on phonoplex from Dwight in Canada; explained that the line had inferior apparatus "being the first made."###Anxious to know how Ott made out with battery experiment.
