Title

[D8952ACK], Letter from Ontario Mining Commission, Archibald Blue to Thomas Alva Edison, December 11th, 1889

Editor's Notes

You will doubtless remember that I visited your laboratory in the month of July for the purpose of making enquiries respecting your ore separator. You were then kind enough to promise that you would furnish me with an account of the working of the separator at your mines in Pennsylvania. But as I noticed that you soon afterwards went across the sea, I presume that the promised statement had been overlooked.##Mr. S. J. Ritchie called upon me Saturday last, and informed me that you have since then made a very great improvement in your method of separating and cleaning iron ores. I shall be very greatly obliged if you can furnish me with a description of the new machine and its capacity, together with analyses or other particulars showing results where your machinery is in operation. I should like to know in particular whether any of the separated ores have been smelted, and if so, whether the charge of the furnace has been made up exclusively of the milled ore, or in what proportion it has been mixed with lump ore. There is an impression that it might choke the furnace if used alone. Yours very truly, A. Blue, Secretary Ontario Mining Commission <TAE marg on back: Mill in Pa has been running several months ore sold to local furnace They use 25 percent of it mixed with 75 pct of the Regular large ore Mesh 10-- Latest machine devised specially for fine crystalized ore not yet ready to publish it= E>
