I was very glad to receive your favor of the 18th July. I will remember our friendly associations at 6 Lombard St. and also the manner in which "the telephone boys," entertained me at dinner at Dinswood on the eve of my departure for America some five years ago. Every now and then I meet one or the other of them and have very pleasant chats over old times. Can you tell me where Roctor (?) is? I would very much like to write to him and if you could give me his address I should esteem it a favor. ## I must say that life in the New World suits me a good deal better than slow Hum-Drum ways of London. ## There is no system of battery lighting which is at all practical. Mr. Edison has tried some very exhaustive experiments on storage batteries and the result of his experiments is that they are absolutely useless. I think that other people must have come to the same conclusion as we hear of nothing in the way of lighting by means of batteries at the present time.
