This notebook covers the period December 1878-June 1879. Most of the entries are by Francis Upton. There are also entries by Edison, Charles Batchelor, John Kruesi, and George Jackson. All of the material relates to experiments on electric lighting. There are notes and calculations by Upton about meters, a series of tests by Upton on generators, and Upton\'s calculations for an electric lighting system. Other material includes a test machine for driving magnetos, designed by Batchelor and built by Jackson; notes by Edison on hand turning a generator; and drawings by Kruesi showing the layout of pipes in one of the laboratory buildings. The label on the front cover is marked \"Faradic machines No. 1\"" and \""Electro deposition Tests.\"" The book contains 284 numbered pages.
