This notebook covers the period January-July 1879. Most of the entries are by Charles Batchelor. There are also entries by Edison, Francis Upton, and John Kruesi. Many entries are signed by Edison. Almost all of the material relates to experiments on electric lighting. Included are a caveat by Edison on generators; notes, drawings, and calculations about generators; and drawings of lamps. There are also drawings of telephones, notes by Batchelor on the design of a building to house an engine, and a note by Kruesi on a water tank. The label on the front cover is marked \"Edison\'s First Magneto.\"" The book contains 232 numbered pages followed by 2 unnumbered pages.
