This scrapbook covers the period December 1884-December 1886. There is also one document from 1889. The entries are by Edison. Included are numerous notes and drawings relating to lamps, along with occasional material about other parts of the electric lighting system, such as generators, meters, and regulators. There are also many notes and drawings dealing with telegraphy, including the phonoplex, railway telegraph, quadruplex, sextuplex, and air or balloon telegraph. There is also a description of a method for producing artificial mother of pearl. Many of the entries contain notes by Edison to Richard N. Dyer, his patent attorney. The name of Edward C. Rowland, Edison\'s patent draftsman, appears as a witness on many of the documents. The case number of Edison\'s patent application has been written on some of the items.
