Description

The dated entries in this pocket notebook cover the period October 1916-January 1917. The book was used by Edison to record ideas about business matters, experiments to be tried, and other tasks to be performed. Some of the items have been crossed out and marked \"Ent.\"" Included are experimental notes pertaining to chemicals, disc record composition, batteries, and the transmittal of photographs by telephone and acoustics. Also included are notes on military topics such as hydrogen detectors to locate submarines, trench warfare, gun position triangulation, night photography, and range finders, as well as other war-related matters such as German chemical production.

Among the business-related entries are estimates of projected sales of Diamond Disc and Amberola records and a notation regarding the possible resignation of Carl H. Wilson, vice president and general manager of Thomas A. Edison, Inc. The entries at the end of the book appear to be clean transcriptions of entries from PN-16-11-15.2. The last page contains a notation concerning Edison\'s agreement of July 22, 1915, with H. H. Meno Kammerhoff, supervisor of operations at his chemical plants in Silver Lake. Other Edison employees mentioned in the book are Charles T. Dally, William Walter Dinwiddie, Archiebald D. Hoffman, and Sherwood T. (Sam) Moore, principal assistants in the development of disc records. The pages are unnumbered. Approximately 150 pages have been used."
