Letterhead of the Department of the Interior, United States Patent Office,
Washington, D. C.,
May 21, 1900.
Thomas A. Edison Esq.,
Orange, New Jersey,
Dear Sir:-
I regret to learn through your letter of the 14th inst., that it will be inconvenient for you to make an exhibit in connection with this office at Buffalo next year. Owing to the interest the public manifested in your patents, as before stated, I had hoped you would be able to show working models of such of your inventions as would constitute an attractive exhibit among the many other fine displays I expect to be furnished by other inventors.
In case you should favorably reconsider this matter, I will be glad to reserve the necessary space.
I am, very respectfully,
C. H. Duell
Commissioner.
