GOOD-BY TO THE HORSE
Thomas A. Edison Announces the Perfection of Storage Battery.
LIGHT, CHEAP AND COMPACT
Invention Believed to Mark a New Era in the Application of Motive Power.
[SUMMARY OF STORAGE BATTERY AND ITS ANTICIPATED IMPACT] EDISON INVADES GERMANY
New Electric Storage Battery Will Be Patented in Berlin.
SPECIAL CABLE TO THE DAILY NEWS -
Berlin, May 30. - Edison's new electric storage battery; local experts reluctantly admit, is likely to have a revolutionary effect on the application of motive power. The invention will be patented in Berlin early in June. Several specimens of the now battery are en route for Germany and after formal tests arrangements for manufacturing them for the German market will be made by the Bergmann Electrical company, the president of which is Sigmund Bergmann, formerly associated with Edison.
Not long ago Edison wrote to Berlin that he thought his new battery ranked in importance with the discovery of the incandescent lamp. The German electrical press generally has all along scoffed at Edison's claims with regard to his battery experiments, asserting that he was wasting his time on an exploded and impracticable idea. 25,000-MILE TEST FOR EDISON AUTOS.
Five Machines Will Start Out Monday and Run Continuously Night and Day to Prove Worth of Battery.
