Recd letters from Beetle of 16 and 17 Feb -- don't place matters in Europe in very good light but promise better for future -- Story, agent for Belgium and Holland doing well -- Austrian agents are Jews and Beetle expects to cancel their contract haven't paid for second lot wants someone more energetic and who would make less trouble -- expects to start Germany soon -- sale to Swizterland on future delivery and agent on short trip and nothing to be done until he returns -- Portugal in about same shape -- Beetle thinks he has big prospect for Spain and is about to close for Italy -- Baron went bak on Beetle in France and he has commenced selling it himself -- French manufacturer has begun to deliver outfits -- rumor that general use of elec pen in Russia has been prohibited as govt controls printing bus, but doesn't believe as their are parties negotiating for its sale there -- Herz has returned from Italy and no prospects of selling quad there (too many wires and not enough bus) -- H going to Germany and Russia to attempt to make quad sales there -- H has secured Gramme machine and Jablockhoff light for U.S. (Bliss describes account of arc lighting in France) -- H says report that negotiations w/Preece in England for quad disrupted by Stearns who claims a piece -- Beetle says Mignon who heads Howe Sewing Machine on continent ready to push phono, telephone, and elec pen in Holland -- English Co pushing pen in colonies
