- Editor's Notes
- Upton report on his patent search to this point; significant statement is at end after discssing several others patents; this letter is probably longer than what we would like to select but we should somewhere quote from the end [and also discuss the two notebooks of Upton's literature search]: If you will telegraph me, that you will be at home and have the time to spare I will go to Menlo Park tomorrow afternoon at three. I want you to explain me your lamp and tell me exactly what you claim. There are only four more English patents and a few American ones for me to examine, and then I shall commence with the scientific journals. I feel sure that the total you have is new, no matter if parts have been before used. This is all I have found.
