- Claims in Case 170 anticipated in Sawyer & Mann patents, also an English patent. Marg: "Sawyer & Man patent is entirely different. In my patent the carbon rod rests lightly on the platina & by an inferior contact becomes highly heated by the resistance of this uniform contact, & I discovered that platinum or iridium would not be melted at this point when connected to the proper pole."
