Title
[D7937ZCW], Letter from Western Electric Co, George May Phelps, Jr. to Thomas Alva Edison, September 27th, 1879
Editor's Notes
"What is the lowest price at which you will furnish us carbon buttons for transmitter?" Marg: "Can furnish them at any price from 1 ct to 15 cts. The present button 10 cts. I suggest that we do not care about making them & do not make any money. The only reason why I make them is that far as the carbon button is concerned they will be absolutely the same at all times & can be relied on. A saving of 3 or 4 cents affected by less care in [???] lamp black &c would be positive loss. It would be great deal better to make inferior [work?] & use a good button as the chances of saving in that direction is far greater."
