- Agreed to dictate Parliamentary session via phone to Times compositor; send 2 clockworks ASAP. Times has been good friend and can't offend. Leclanch batteries not strong enough for bells and speaker; also costly. Rose says Bell Co & WU giving up Leclanch for Calaud; true? Encloses diaphragm of mouthpiece. Suggests cutting slit in underside "for escape of spittal--thus protecting the chin of a speaker." Send only 1st class assistants, who will be dist co engineers. Tell Bergmann to put equally good work on telephones as on switchboards.
