- Adventures slogging through Florida swamps for cane. "What renders this job extremely interesting is the strong probability of getting bitten by a snake." Hard to get guides; harder to get reliable info. "Bamboo weed" looks like cane you want but not fibrous. "Switch cane" cut in season dries hard as wood. Just learned of "immense bamboo" near Key West. All cane subject to periodic burning, accidental or purposeful.
