"The Edison Telephone may be properly described as an apparatus by which one person causes the air at a distant station to vibrate in an exactly similar manner to that in which it vibrates close to his mouth...There is not signal and no code and no trained or skiilled observer or sender at either end" ergo not a telegraph.
