Title
[D8049ZFB], Letter from Edward Hibberd Johnson to Thomas Alva Edison, June 2nd, 1880
Editor's Notes
Amalgamation approved by both boards this pm. Explains last-minute negotiations; G concerned that telephone did not protect your interests in future telephone co profits. Explains cable exchanges. Fearful what would happen, since I had cabled you to accept and also not to. G's proposals for guaranteeing your interest unacceptable, but finally settle on simple written promise from Board so I cabled you to approve settlement without prejudice to your future share. Gouraud held out on amalgamation to try to get bigger payoff to himself. Gouraud wants you to join him in a trust, but you would not be able to do anything without consent of others in trust; not good idea. Don't do it til I see you, maybe in Sept.
