Harjes also made a demand for 52.5 shares (26,500f) as additional commission. "When we resisted he sent to the Franco Egyptian Bank & offered to pay the whole debt of Edison, Puskas, & Bailey in order to get our shares in his hands. The Bank refused to lend itself to this extortion,--We had (Puskas & Bailey) already raised the money to pay our part, & had so advised him. (by letter in your pkg dated Nov 8, 1880) He kept up contest on this till receipt of our letter of Dec 10, 1880 threatening him with exposure in the courts, (see letter in pkg) when he yielded." Includes further discussion of Harjes's actions, how telephone company shares were distributed and when, Harjes's pecuniary arrangements, etc. This is accompanied by a typed copy of the actual agreement.
