Title
[D8142ZAG], Memorandum, Thomas Alva Edison, April 19th, 1881
Editor's Notes
TAE autograph memorandum for patent: "Draw up patent on sheets of plumbago, graphitoidal silicon, boron & Zirconium moulded by pressure preferrable in a hydraulic press.......Then placing a great number of these sheets in a closed flask and brought up to incandescenc in furnace & then the vapor of a hydrocarbon passed over the sheets so as to deposit carbon upon them. Afterwards the sheets are placed under a punch & on a die......" Can do it without depositing carbon but "I prefer to deposit because there is less breakage in punching and placing in the lamp. R increased by charcoal. Can use any kind of carbon but more difficult than graphitoidal carbon."
