Title
[D8238ZAF], Letter from Charles Batchelor to Thomas Alva Edison, March 6th, 1882
Editor's Notes
[whose miserable handwriting is this?] Confirming cables. 27 Feb.: "Frank Holzer has good piece work here wants thirty dollars week travelling expenses & board while there." Also 3 March: "Bradley has man wants three dolllars and expenses both ways understands [everything? nothing?] only cannot fix machines. Drawings central station dynamo go shortly [----] delay many [-----] consttruction cable shipping directions twenty(?0 dollars. Must pay for these Friday shalll I draw on [-----]." Wanted Holzer because Hipple has much working teaching other men and didn't want to hire someone who could be easily bought off by Swan or Maxim. Bradley's man who can't fix machines no good for us, as we have "some remarkably smart little Frenchmen who work cheaply here." Yours of 17 Feb at hand, enclosing full bills & shipments. Got bill of Oldenbourg of Munich against TAE, and will pay immdy. Progressing with factory but find it hard to get machines in short time. After receive drawings, "will order complete machinery for burning and one large dynamo every month." Conrfirm my cable of 3 Mar: "Send taps for mercury corks." [Insull shorthand marg.]
