Title
[D8238ZCD], Letter from Charles Batchelor to Thomas Alva Edison, August 5th, 1882
Editor's Notes
Have sent now about 18 Z machines. Have started putting guide on belt to keep it from wobbling (esp where exposed to moist atmos) and cutting the armature [sketch]. Have made switchboards so [sketch]. Often wood dries out and bindposts have to be fixed. Armature plates: "I have persuaded a man here to make me these under a steam hammer in a mould and they come out bang up as true as if they had been turned." Cost 8.5 cents/lb. Name: Casting Edison co. name in 1/4 relief letters on dynamo heads. Finished making tools for sockets. Have 50 kilos of wire for armatures wound into six-wire strands; was hard to get it insulated but think armature wiring will go twice as fast.
