Title
[D8238ZCJ], Letter from George Edward Gouraud to Thomas Alva Edison, August 22nd, 1882
Editor's Notes
Had interview today with English man with large properties & "immense water power" 15 miles from Geneva, in neutral territory. He and friends willing to put up money to test transmission of power to Geneva if: use water from Rhone reservoir, using existing turbines capable of 10,000HP; can obtain concession to light Geneva. What is wanted from you is: your opinon about commercial viability of transmission over 15 miles; size & weight of conductors needed. Can get 20,000 pounds subscribed to syndicate; might want smaller, lower-cost cable to start out.
