Title
[D8238ZCS], Letter from Francis Jehl to Thomas Alva Edison, September 1st, 1882
Editor's Notes
[from Paris] Prevailed on Batch about 1 month ago to buy Deprez galv to replace dynamometers, which require much attention and standardizing, and can't be read in an instant. Describes construction and use of Deprez [drawing enclosed]. Substituted mirror for pointer; testing of inst for suitability for lamp work. One of these will do the work of 3 or 4 dynamometers; would also be useful in central station or anyplace a Thompson galv is used. My position here is like that of inspector gneneral--"pity me." Economy of lamps in Paris greater than 10 per hp. but lifetime is short but expect will increase. Heard Mott & wife were in London, now in Geneva. They [Geneva?] turning out small dynamos daily, & advancing in their socket & lamp fixtures. Have begun to make parts for large machine.
