- Editor's Notes
- Experiments made 2 October: wound Clarke cotton thread on fiber ends, boiled in sugar, carbonized. Carbed very porous around the fiber, also contracted less than fiber leaving it very loose. Drilled & split bast fiber, fastened with resin, carbonized. Contracted differently than fiber. Japaned small strips paper, wound around fiber ends, carbonized; produced scales. Drilled pieces of graphite [still no good]. October 3, wound with thicker thread. Results like NO. 1. Flat pieces of box wood; no good. Also driled small pieces of bamboo, various substances for fastenning in; "this worked very well the fibers seemed to form a homogeneous mass."
