- Title
- [D8253ZAF], Letter from George S Ladd, Pacific Bell Telephone Co to Thomas Alva Edison, April 24th, 1882
- Editor's Notes
- Confirming text of telegraphic reply to wired inquiry rcd yesterday. Explains that the Edison Co established in SF never experienced serious rivalry from Bell. Improvements since consolidation not due to consolidation itself but from having more experience management. Best service ordinarily developed with competition. Local practice is to charge $5 monthly rental and 5 cents for each switch performed, so as to end "abuse" of unlimited free switching which overtaxes exchanges in the east. Discusses practices of other exchanges.
