Title
[D8256ZAC], Report from United Telephone Co Ltd, James Brand, May 24th, 1882
Editor's Notes
Update to shareholders on patent infringement litigation. Defendant's appeal in Scotland dismissed; enforcement against carbon transmitter & Bell receiver infringers will begin in Scotland. In England, judge holds Hunning's transmitter within scope of TAE's carbon transmitter patent but denies injunction because of phonograph claim in this pat (not sufficiently described in provisional). This in conflict with ruling of Scottish court. J. Henry Johnson, Aston, Webster, other counsel, unanimously think Scottish decision correct; appeal in process. Objection raised by English court can be cured by disclaimer, and Co. expects to establish validity of TAE carbon patent in England as well as Scotland.
