- Editor's Notes
- "What you say is far the most encouraging information that it has yet been my pleasure to receive from Europe in relation to the development of our enterprise."; responds to questions from letter: (1) having blueprints, drawings, plans, prepared and sent, usually contracts to do whole job himself (building of station, erection of plant, conductors) then turns it over to locals after running for 30 days; Batchelor knows this method, but not canvassing, gives very detailed explanation of canvassing process (reading and estimating light usage and placement, finding lot), "a birds eye view of the lighting of each town" (2) estimates sent with blueprints (3) ordered samples of three wire system (4) cannot spare man to start lamp factory, thinks a factory would be a mistake, "We have been making great strides in lamp manufacture within the last few months and the more lamps we make here the cheaper we can turn them out and the more money we can afford for experimenting work in improving lamps.", a "risky and uncertain business" (5) sent new H machine and new 100 light machine, now designing 25, 50 and 250 lights (6) does not believe in use of condenser for engines, "liable to get out of order", if coal expensive, could save money
