- Editor's Notes
- How would it do to take some iron from the large pole pieces on the large dymamo to prevent the sparking of Brushes [drawing]? Suggests that there's a short in the magnetic circuit between tips of pole pieces that "develops a tension between any two armature bars as they come opposite, and this being the location of the brushes on the commutator produces sparking." Expounds somewhat on this theory; thinks the new H machine gives proof of its correctness. Suggesting that pole pieces come to a point in order to concentrate lines of force [which he argues happens in the small machines by the high speed of rotation.] You amy have thought of this long ago but yu have too many duties to give it real thought. TAE marg: "Say to B that it would be troublesome and costly to do Am tryting yo do it with brushes themselves"
