Title
[D8337F], Letter from Joshua Franklin Bailey to Thomas Alva Edison, January 20th, 1883
Editor's Notes
[from Berlin] Will be several days before can say anything definite about talks with Siemens & Halske and German bankers. Got your cable about Italian Porter and A&S engines. Colombo says you wrote him that 2 A&S will regulate and steady 2 Porters. You could compromise with Italians by charging them for 2 engines without expense to them [not clear what this means]. But they ask, "how is it that Mr. Edison does not treat us as well as he treats himself?" about paying for unsatisfactory engines. Will be very costly to all of us unless the Italians are satisfied.
