- [highly quotable] I thank you for calling on Villard. He told me of it & that your visit gave him more comfort than anything that has happened since his misfortunes. He is honest, & will again be rich or at least as influential & prosperous as before – He told Carl Schurz in my hearing that the Edison Electric Light had a greater field than than O.R&N, O&S. & Northern Pac together … that it was commercially perfect, - & he afterwards told me privately that he was going to give his time to it after this. He added that Fabbri had been his best friend -- & Fabbri told me that mistakes & all Villard is a good & a great man.
