Title
[D8423Q], Letter from Babcock and Wilcox to Edison Electric Illuminating Co (Fall River), May 7th, 1884
Editor's Notes
Summarizing Kept's report, you can't get first class results by natural draft. Based on experience a blower and soft coal is cheaper than to fire the boiolers with any size coal and natural draft, which reduces the stack termperature and lowers efficiency. You would probably get much better results by shutting off one boiler entirely and burning your coal with just one. We can send you a fireman who will get a good deal more than the rated capacity out of your boiler, whether or not it will be able to run your plant is another question. More stuff about running engines.
