- Editor's Notes
- "I have arranged with Messrs. Kendall & Co. and our stockholders ... to run the Santiago Station for six months and pay all expenses. Before that time I shall make it pay dividends and also organize a large company, but I must meanwhile face a loss of from $1,000 to $3,000." #My contract with Mr Edison gives me all the business I want, and the closing of the Santiago Station would not hurt me at all, as the people here understand what has been the trouble in Santiago. But knowing that a little effort and hard work here will save the whole business and give us a profit -- if we all sacrifice something -- I make the following proposition." Lays out details of revised contract and business plans, with note that all parties in Santiago approve of the plan, which will supplant all previous offers. Instructs TAE to cable if he approves, do nothing if he does rejects the proposition. ##Also mentions work “on a large theatre job” [ Teatro de Variedades ]## enclosed correspondence from a stockholder named Demerest. See D8435Q for later version of this proposal? And D8435ZAF for Eaton's memo re D8435R; as well as D8435ZBM and D8416AIW for TAE drafts, and D8435B for agreement 9 Feb 1884
